Pythagoreio harbour

Best Hotels in Pythagoreio: Compared

Close to the airport, close to the ancient sites. Here is how to pick where to sleep in it.

Pythagoreio is Samos' south-east harbour town, named after its most famous son, and one of the shortest transfers from the airport of any base on the island. Alongside the Heraion nearby, its ancient port, fortifications and the Eupalinos Tunnel earned it UNESCO World Heritage status.

It's a compact town, so most properties are within a short walk of the harbour, but a few things still separate them: distance to the water, harbourfront noise, and whether you're closer to the marina or the quieter backstreets.

This page compares Pythagoreio by area and by stay type, not by named hotel: rates and availability change constantly and are best checked live. For the fuller picture of the town itself, see our [Pythagoreio guide](/destinations/pythagoreio).

The harbourfront and marina

The centre of the action

Rooms overlooking or a minute from the harbour, where the Pythagoras statue looks out over the water and the evening promenade happens. Restaurants and cafes are on the doorstep.

  • Everything within walking distance: restaurants, the castle, the museum
  • Can be busy and noisier in the evening during summer
  • The most convenient base for an early flight, since it's near the airport
  • Book ahead for July and August, when it's Pythagoreio's busiest period

Best for: Short stays, early or late flights, and travellers who want everything within walking distance

The backstreets behind the harbour

A quieter version of the same town

A short walk inland from the water, in the town's residential lanes, still close enough to reach the harbour on foot in a few minutes.

  • Quieter at night than the harbourfront
  • Still a short, flat walk to restaurants and the water
  • Often better value than a harbourfront room
  • Less of a sea view, if that matters to your trip

Best for: Travellers who want Pythagoreio's convenience without the harbourfront noise

The eastern edge, toward the Heraion

A short drive from the ancient sites

Properties on the town's outer edge, closer to the road out toward the Heraion of Samos and the airport, generally needing a short drive or taxi into the centre.

  • The most practical base if the Heraion and Eupalinos Tunnel are priorities
  • A car, taxi or short walk is needed to reach the harbour itself
  • Often newer or larger properties with more facilities
  • Good for a first or last night built around a flight

Best for: Travellers focused on the ancient sites, or timing a stay around a flight

What to check before you book in Pythagoreio

  • Airport noise. Samos Airport sits close to the town. It's a small airport with limited daily traffic, but if you're a light sleeper, ask a property near the eastern edge about its distance from the runway.
  • Harbourfront noise. The harbour promenade is lively on summer evenings. A room set back a street or two from the water is usually noticeably quieter.
  • Walking distance to the sites. The town centre, castle and museum are walkable from almost anywhere in Pythagoreio. The Heraion and the Eupalinos Tunnel are a short drive out, not a walk, wherever you stay.
  • Airport transfers. Pythagoreio is genuinely close to the airport, which makes it a sensible choice for a short first or last night of a trip.
