How We Rank Samos Tours: What to Know
Our 'best tours' pages don't rank by star rating alone, and here's exactly why, and how the real method works.

A tour with a perfect 5.0 rating from three reviews isn't more trustworthy than one rated 4.7 from 200 reviews. Ranking by raw star rating would say otherwise, so we don't do that. Instead, our ranked tour pages (like Best Boat Trips and Best Wine Tasting Tours) use a Bayesian average, a method that weights a tour's rating by how many reviews actually back it up.
The bar to even qualify: a tour is only ranked if it has at least 4.5 stars and at least 10 reviews on the booking partner's site. Tours below that bar can still appear in comparison tables for transparency, but they're never presented as 'best'.
The formula: score = (reviews x rating + 20 x 4.5) / (reviews + 20). The '20' is a prior weight: it takes roughly 20 reviews before a tour's own average counts as much as our 4.5 baseline. This is the same style of method review-heavy platforms use to stop a handful of five-star reviews from outranking hundreds of solid 4.7s.
Why it matters: it means our '#1' tour on any ranked page is the one with the strongest, most reliably-earned reputation, not just whichever happens to have the highest raw star average this week.
Data freshness: every price, rating and review count on a ranked tour page is read directly from the partner's live listing on the date shown on that page, never estimated or carried over from a previous update. Ratings and prices can and do change between our checks, so always confirm the live details on the booking page before paying.
